Russell Bogart

Russell Bogart, a partner of the firm, graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1992 and with Honors from George Washington University Law School in 1996. He is admitted to practice in New York, the District of Columbia, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Third and Ninth Circuits.

Mr. Bogart has extensive experience litigating complex commercial and business cases in federal and state courts including handling bankruptcy litigation, whistleblower claims, intellectual property litigation, white collar litigation, insurance coverage litigation, contract disputes, commercial torts, product liability litigation and employment litigation. He presently represents a group of investors against an accounting firm which operated a limited liability company for the purpose of investing the funds with Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, LLC. In one federal matter, Mr. Bogart obtained the dismissal of the plaintiff’s claims seeking the recovery of millions of dollars, and the payment of attorney’s fees, after demonstrating that the plaintiff manipulated electronic data and forged an incentive stock option agreement. Additionally, he has prosecuted claims against a national accounting firm and law firm for promoting an unlawful tax shelter; defended a prominent art dealer accused of sales tax avoidance by the US Attorney’s Office; represented bankruptcy trustees against banks, casinos, law firms and accounting firms; and represented a prominent producer and screenwriter in copyright and idea submission claims against a major film studio.

Mr. Bogart began his career practicing with the New York City Law Department where he earned the “highest merit raise” for his work defending the City of New York in civil rights lawsuits and he then prevailed in a number of published appellate decisions. During law school, he interned for a year with a federal judge at the United States Court of Federal Claims and for a semester with the Counsel to United States Senator Joseph Biden, Jr., Ranking Democrat on the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary.
